concert survival 101

- find a spot to spectate where there is something to hang onto, in the event everything goes to shit. at the front of the stage is perfect. while you might sustain several injuries while trying to hold the crowd back, logistically you can't end up underneath the crowd...just really, really smushed in front of it.
- when everything does go to shit (because it inevitably will), go limp and find your happy place. hopefully the band's set will include several songs that you're just too excited to hear them play live to care about how dislocated any of your bones might be becoming at that point in time.
- keep a watchful eye out for crowd surfers. while they have mastered the art of how to float effortlessly above heads, there are no guarantees that they have any real control over their arms or feet (that are usually in shoes, and should be considered dangerous weapons). if you can't remember to watch your back, watch security's faces...or, in the case of bloc party, the lead singer's face, because they usually cringe when they see people being tossed around.
- forget the idea of having any type of personal space. even if you have managed to weasel your way to the very front row, which saves you from being unnecessarily intimate with a row of people in front of you, there still will be people basically standing cheek-to-cheek with you from the side and behind. oh, and be prepared...there will deffo be some young pervs who will use the unavoidable closeness to cup your ass at any given moment in time.
- when all else fails, just listen to the music, embrace every sweaty, cramped moment...and dance. because even though concert guidelines 1-4 truly suck, the show you're there for, likely losing a limb at, is probs totes amaze.
tonite...the ting tings. am hoping for a less...enthused crowd.
