do you hear what i hear?

woof.

last night i went out for a few hours, and when i came home, i got off the elevator and rounded the corner to my place. what.is.that.barking? horrified, i knew instantly what is was. a beagle bark is uber distinctive, and that bark totes belonged to my dog. ugh. my dog sounded as if he'd been shot. but no, of course he hadn't been shot. he was merely expressing his super dissatisfaction at having been left home alone with a lack of cuddles being lavished upon him. while he can be a bit of an ass, i was kind of surprised he was making such a fuss. having been in the building a few months, i had yet to hear him bark while i was away, even after several careful tip-toeing missions where i would stealthily get myself up to the door to get an idea of what he might be up to in there. it may be a one-off thing but i can't exactly risk being tossed out of my building.

tonite i was supposed to go to the ex. my blog post for today was supposed to be filled with fun pictures of carousels and game booths and scary carnies. instead, i am headed to canadian tire, to check out their selection of bark controlling units. based on their website, i'm leaning towards the ultrasonic bark control - according to the product specs, it emits a high pitch sound whenever your dog barks to teach them to not bark. sounds great. am i convinced it will work? no. but it seems like a much better alternative than the "shock" collar. eesh. the reviews on the ultrasonic miracle seem to be split 50/50, half of the customers say it worked great, the other half, not so great. where do you think my darling little caseybear will fall? i have an idea. and hope i'm wrong.

anybody else have any bark-controlling ideas? i'm all ears.

as a funny aside, can you believe there is no shortage of pictures that come up when you use the search terms "beagle" together with "bark" on flickr? funny that... ;)

Cyn had to use one of the collars on Breckin cause he would bark at her when I wasn't home, hahaha.

Opted for the "shock" collar because all the stores we went to were sold out of the high frequency one and she was going mental.

Worked great, and nowhere near bad it is sounds. A "personal test" revealed that it's really just like a like static shock, and I guess just surprises them enough to stop barking.

Good luck!

love the shout out to the C Tire website ;) my solution over the years - hire a dog walker for the work-nights when you know you'll be out after.

yes, did love the online experience, unfortunately the in-store experience made me want to poke my eyes out. one thing that is semi annoying tho - the ct website shows the store has stock, even when they don't? a tad frustrating.

would totes have gotten a dog walker, if i wasn't already home myself! literally was out with him for an hour before i left to have dins with a friend...apparently he did not enjoy dining alone that eve ;)
